Spell Checkers Pt 2

Spelling Reform What Say You?

For this I will join Susie Spellwell’s organization, Simplr Speling 4 Ahl to provide points regarding the benefit of of simplified spelling for children with dyslexia and other learning conditions.

Points: English spelling is inconsistent, presenting significant problems for children with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Simplifying spelling could dramatically reduce the load on these children’s brain whilelearning to read and write. For example, by standardizing the various sounds that the combination ‘ough’ can represent (such as ‘through’, ‘though’, ‘tough’, and ‘cough’), we could make the learning process more intuitive and accessible, thus supporting faster and more inclusive literacy development among all learners, particularly those with specific learning challenges.
